Do you trust your instincts?
Yes, I do, especially after reading Gavin De Becker’s book The Gift of Fear. I do believe it has saved me several times, especially when traveling abroad, though sometimes I feel I gaslight myself into thinking I’m being too paranoid.
At any rate, I had to learn to trust my instincts after realizing I couldn’t do life on manual mode all the time. It gets exhausting. Overthinking is like a sport to me, but at some point, you run out of time to think. As they say (and pardon my french), Shit or get off the pot, so… I learned to just go with my gut.
It’s a skill that needs to be practiced daily, which is difficult for someone like me. Luckily, my job requires me to make decisions on the fly, so I have plenty of practice. I have a long way to go before I can say I truly trust my gut, but I guess that’s what makes it a journey.
